2. Party

Chloe Richardson

"Ma'am, the stylists are here." I heard my assistant Dakota say, bringing me back to my surroundings. I was standing by the balcony of my rented apartment and was starring at the busy street life of NYC. It's a beautiful place to say the least.

"I'm coming, Dakota. Can you please bring me some wine? I'm in the mood for a light drink." I said and turned around walking to my room with Dakota trailing behind me.

"Sure, Ma'am." She said and parted ways, walking towards the kitchen to my right.

I went to my room where two people were already present, arranging the makeup items on the vanity table.

"Hey, Chloe. How're you today?" The lady asked and I smiled, waving at them.

"Hey. I'm fine. Thanks for asking." I said and walked towards the series of dresses they've laid on my bed. There were number of pretty, sparkly dresses for me to choose from. I need to put my best fashion foot forward. It's really important for me to make a statement tonight.

I'm attending a party tonight. It's a big event organised by a company called 'Fashion and the City', which happens to be one of the biggest modelling agency in New York. Since it's my first time in the city and of course my first time working with their fellow company, they've been gracious enough to invite me. This is a very nice opportunity for me to make contacts here and try and get some more modelling contracts in the city.

I'm from London and am a British model but I've always wanted to work in New York considering how many opportunities awaits me. Modelling has always been my passion and I'll do anything to build a successful career here, across the globe too.

I've already been offered a contract with a new agency and I'll be staying in New York for three months. After that, I'm gonna have to return to London as my marriage are on the cards.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all interested in this marriage. The guy is my parents' choice. They've been waiting for me to get a boyfriend for the last 6 years and since I didn't like anybody for more than 2 months, they got fed up of waiting and arranged my marriage to their friend's son, Joseph. I tried finding someone I love and want to genuinely have a future with but nobody cared about me. All they've ever wanted is my body.

Joseph is an investment banker and is quite successful in his field. I've met him twice in the 6 months that we've been 'secretly' engaged. I don't want to break the news until the marriage. For the world I'm still single.

Joseph's a nice guy. He's polite, he's respectful and he doesn't have a problem with my career choice. He doesn't care if I wear short clothes or if I do a ramp walk in bikini. At first, I thought he respects my job and trust me but soon I realised that in reality, he doesn't care.

At first, I tried getting to know him but that man's a different kind of workaholic. He never came to see any of my runways or never bothered to see my pics in the magazine. All he ever does is type on his laptop or read something in his phone. I think he'll continue working just before the moment he takes his last breath.

I shook his thoughts off and concentrated on the beautiful dresses before me. They were in colours of rose gold, midnight blue, dark blue, blood red, light purple and what not. They were of different neck cutouts, knee-lengths and sleeve types.

I looked through all of them and then settled on a black floor-length cocktail dress from Zara with a thigh-high slit. Nothing screams 'classy' more than a black dress. I paired it with black feather-d earrings, some black nail polish, black clutch and a pair of black Saint Laurent heels. These are so comfortable to walk around in, they're a staple in my wardrobe.

Once I was ready, the stylist clicked some pretty pictures of me. I walked downstairs and saw Dakota walking towards me with the glass of wine I asked for before.

"Sorry Ma'am. We ran out of wine and I had to jog down to the shop to buy you more so I didn't bring it to you earlier." Dakota said in a sorry tone.

"That's fine, Dakota. No need to say sorry." I said and grabbed the glass of wine from her hand.

I sipped my wine as I waited for my cab and finished it. Once, Dakota informed me of my cab's arrival, I kept the glass aside, took my clutch and walked outside.

Let's get the party started.
